Class Descriptions

Chem PS 1130 Introduction to General, Organic and Biochemistry - 5 semester hour credits, for those needing a one semester course with lab.  A course designed primarily for students of nursing and health sciences.  The course is completed in a fifteen-week semester (fourteen in summer).  With approximately 40% of the course is devoted to general chemistry, and 60% to organic and biochemistry.  Laboratory experiments are done online using a computer, a lab manual, and online lab files.  Course Content Chem 1130

Chem PS 1110:  Elementary Chemistry (5 semester hour credits including lab) for those needing a one semester course of general chemistry with or without lab.  Fundamentals of inorganic chemistry and brief introduction to organic chemistry are included.  This is the first course in a two-semester sequence designed primarily for students of nursing, engineering technology and other health professions or sciences who will take no more than one year of chemistry.  Laboratory experiments are done using a computer, a lab manual and online lab files.   Course Content Chem 1110 

Chem 1120 Elementary Organic/Biochemistry - (5 semester hour credits including lab), for those who have taken chemistry 1110 and need a second semester of organic/biochemistry with or without lab.  The course includes an elementary study of the compounds of carbon and chemical processes of biological systems.  Prerequisite: Chem PS 1110 or equivalent.  Laboratory experiments are done using a computer, a lab manual, and online lab files.  Note: Chemistry 1120 is NOT the organic chemistry course required for pre-medical and pre-dental students.  Course Content Chem 1120.
